Volleyball
The Manhattan High volleyball team had a successful night sweeping all three opponents they faced in last night’s quad. The other teams present were Topeka West, Concordia, and Topeka High, all of which were beaten in just two sets.
Riley County and Wabaunsee also went at it last night playing two matches. Wabaunsee came out victorious in both matches winning the first match 25-20, 19-25, 24-26 and winning the second match 16-25 and 16-25.
Boy’s Soccer
The MHS Boys soccer team also in action last night against Topeka Seaman. The Tribe was 4-1 entering the contest with the 5-0 Vikings, but were able to edge out Seaman winning by the final of 2-1. Manhattan got out to an nice 2-0 lead with 25 minutes remaining thanks to goals from Senior Alex Dzewaltowski who scored the first for the Tribe followed by a goal from Junior Jonathan Turley. Seaman did score a goal with just over two and a half minutes left, but could not answer with another goal to tie.
Girl’s Golf
The Manhattan High Girls Golf team won the Salina South Invitational on Tuesday at Salina Municipal. The team shot a season low 319 with 5 girls having their personal bests.
Blake Fingalsen and Kylie McCarthy, along with a golfer from Maize, all tied for first place with scores of 75. In the sudden death playoff, Fingalsen parred the first playoff hole to claim the gold medal. McCarthy’s 75 was her career’s best score. Her sister Kelsey also shot a 79 to place 5th.
Hannah Devane shot a personal best of 90, Anna Jackson a personal best of 96, and Cassidy Harper a personal best of 106. Next up for the Lady Indians is the Centennial League Tournament on Tuesday at Lake Shawnee hosted by Shawnee Heights.
