Man’s best friend got its turn to take a dip at the 9th Annual Pet Poolooza, sponsored by the Petco Foundation. Although there is no official count of the number of paws to cross CiCo Pool’s threshold, the many Manhattan residents and pooches who attended the event were asked to make a donation to the T. Russell Reitz Manhattan Regional Animal Shelter, which all proceeds of the event will benefit.
Animal Shelter Technician Serena Irwin says although the event is geared toward the canine, the proceeds will go to efforts which benefit a number of different species of animals, including cats, small rodents, reptiles, and wildlife.
According to Shelter Control Director, Willie Davilla, the shelter is here to support the welfare of the community and its many pets. He says the event allows those animals that have already found their forever home to help those are currently looking for theirs.
If you are interested in volunteering at the shelter, Irwin indicates training will begin in September. For more information, e-mail irwin@MHK.com.
The T. Russell Reitz Shelter is open for adoption viewing Thursday through Tuesday from 1-5 p.m.
