Officers and employees of the Riley County Police Department will be on the run Thursday. The police department will join over 950 other participants from across the State of Kansas in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run, benefiting the Special Olympics of Kansas.
At 10:00 a.m. runners from the RCPD will begin a run of almost 11 miles across the Manhattan and Riley County area. The local leg of the run will begin at the Pottawatomie County/Riley County line and end at the Ogden Gates of Fort Riley.
The 97th Military Police Battalion and Directorate of Emergency Services, will then receive the torch and bring things to a close by delivering it to police officers in Junction City’s Grant Park.
The annual event will run through 35 Kansas counties this year, as the “Flame of Hope” travels nearly 1,500 miles across the state.
