From K-State Athletics K-State freshman pitcher Jordan Wicks was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after his five-hit shutout of No. 14 Texas over the weekend, the conference office announced Monday. Wicks, a left-handed pitcher from Conway, Arkansas, turned in his first career shutout on Sunday, scattering five hits and striking out six to produce K-State’s first shutout victory over Texas in program history. Kansas State senior Barry Brown, Jr., has received a bid to play in the prestigious Portsmouth Invitational Tournament, which is set for Wednesday-Saturday, April 17-20 at Churchland High School in Portsmouth, Virginia. Operating since 1953, the Portsmouth Invitational is one of the preeminent NBA pre-draft camps with approximately 200 NBA representatives in attendance. The four-day tournament consists of 12 games with 64 invited college seniors playing on eight teams of eight players.
