Participants in this year’s Biking Across Kansas effort pased through Manhattan Wednesday, on their way to an overnight stay in Wamego. More than 1,000 riders are expected, and they’ll be staying at Wamego High School Wednesday night.

The group has been travelling since this past weekend, with some starting at the Colorado border Friday. Overnight stops have been in Satanta, Spearville, Ellinwood, and Salina. The group continues Thursday to Oskaloosa, and then to Hiawatha for an overnight stay Friday, finishing its 555 mile trek in Highland.

Biking Across Kansas (BAK) is an annual, eight-day, bicycle tour across the state of Kansas. BAK’s website indicates the effort promotes health and wellness through bicycling, the history and beauty of the Kansas landscape, and the warm hospitality of the Kansas towns and people.

The event is described as a recreational and social rally for cyclists, not an endurance contest, a race or a test of stamina. Each rider to sets a pace agreeable to his or her own degree of expertise
