On Monday, June 10, weather permitting, a local roadway improvement project will begin on a two-block portion of Bluemont Avenue from Manhattan Avenue east to 11th Street. Project work includes grading and surfacing, storm sewer and traffic signal installation, and the addition of a raised median in the center of Bluemont Avenue. Work will take place during daylight hours, Monday through Friday, with some occasional Saturday work.
The Bluemont Avenue improvement project will be constructed in phases to allow for traffic flow through the area. There will be lane restrictions or lane closures on Bluemont Avenue throughout the summer months during construction. Business entrances on the south side of Bluemont Avenue will be affected by this project. These south side entrances will be closed or phased for construction one-half at a time to allow for traffic flow to these businesses.
Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via signage and cones. Drivers should expect delays during peak commute times and are encouraged to use alternate routes, if possible.
The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the project work zone.
