The board went through a report to review what is happening at the schools, as construction is winding down.
A reminder to the board and to the community was given concerning the Manhattan High School dedication ceremony that will be Thursday, Sept 20 beginning at 4:30 pm until 7 at the school and the program will begin at 5:30 pm in the North Gym.
Ogden Elementary was praised by receiving the Title 1 reward at the meeting as well. The board congratulated the school, administration, teachers and staff on their hard work.
The board had a presentation from Buck Driggs, Vice President with SMH Consultants, concerning the Marlatt / Junietta Extension project. The board talked about possibly giving a letter of support for the project, before Driggs takes the issue before the Kansas Department of Transportation. Driggs has already made a presentation before the joint City of Manhattan , Riley County and Pottawatomie County meeting last month.
The old business item for the night consisted of the 2012 Winter retreat items that included 1) senior early release, 2) high school day start time, 3) open/closed lunch hour at the high school, 4) high school schedule, and then in April 5) elementary school schedule was added to the list. At this meeting, a schedule was agreed upon which bring the morning start times public hearing to the next board meeting on Wednesday, Sept 19.
New business items included a review of the 2012 Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce Legislative Policies and Positions, which had discussion, but no formal action taken; then the classified employee wages was passed with a 6-0 vote, along with the administrative employee salaries.
The board’s next meeting will be Wednesday, Sept 19 and should be broadcast on Manhattan Cable Channel 20.
