Auxiliary Children’s Christmas Party will be held on Saturday, December 7th from Noon to 2:00 pm. Take your camera and get your picture taken with special guests, Santa Claus and his wife! They will be serving refreshments (light lunch) and they will have a crafts table so you can create and design your very own Christmas Ornament. Lots of fun to be had by everyone!
The Historical and Archaeological Society of Fort Riley will host its 30th annual Historic Tour of Homes from noon to 4 pm on December 7th at various locations throughout Main Post. The tour can be done by foot or by car. Greeters will be at the door at each stop and docents will be on every floor of the homes on tour to provide information about the home. The tour of homes is open to the public. Tickets, available firstname.lastname@example.org, museum gift shop, or Gatherings on the Prairie, are $10/advance, #12/event day. Tour is recommended for anyone 10 or older. Each participant must have a ticket.
Wamego celebrates Christmas with a Home Tour on Saturday, December 7th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, December 8th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. There are 7 homes and 1 church on the tour. Tickets are $15 per person (no children under 12 please), and are available at each location. All proceeds go to the Ruby Slippers Fund through Community Health Ministry. Next Monday, December 9th, the Flint Hills Metropolitan Planning Organization (FHMPO) will be hosting a public meeting at the Junction City Gymnasium from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. Formal presentation will be made at 4:30 and 5:30. This public meeting will be open to the public and allow for an opportunity to learn more about the FHMPO and the Public Participation Plan that is currently out for public review and comment. The Public Participation Plan (PPP) outlines the activities and methods the FHMPO will use to engage and encourage the public to play a integral part of the transportation planning process.

Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley-Manhattan will honor fallen veterans and their loved ones, again this year. On December 14th, the cemetery will host the Wreath’s Across America Program, with a short memorial ceremony followed by the placement of donated Holiday Wreaths at the interment sites of the veterans. Refreshments will also be available in the Cemetery Hospitality Room after the ceremony. This program began at Arlington National Cemetery in 1992, and has spread across the United States and to many arts of the world. Its purpose is to honor all veterans, and those who supported them, for the sacrifices made for our country. The ceremony is open to the public and will begin at 11:00 am at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, 5181 Wildcat Creek Road, (near the Manhattan, KS Airport). The final workshop for the fall series of Tech Tuesdays at the Manhattan Public Library , “Intro to the Library Catalog,” will be on December 17th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. This class will offer a useful tutorial, plus tips on getting the most out of the Manhattan Public Library’s catalog. Among the topics to be discussed include how to request books for purchase, register for events and more.
