The Manhattan Book Group and VIP (Visually Impaired Persons) Support Group will meet on Tuesday, October 21st, at the Riley County Senior Center. The Book Group will meet at 1:00. They will discuss ‘The Ghost Map” by Steven Johnson. The VIP Group will meet following the Book Group from 2:00 – 3:00. This will be a “Share” meeting. The K-State Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. David Littrell, will present music by composers from the Czech Republic (formerly Bohemia and Czechoslovakia). Composers represented are Dvorak, Martinu, and Smetana. The Flint Hills Masterworks Chorale, conducted by Dr. Julie Yu, will join the Orchestra for Dvorak’s Te Deum. The October 21st concert is at 7:30 pm in the McCain Auditorium. Admission is free.
Randolph United Methodist Church will hold their Fall Supper on Wednesday, October 22nd from 5 to 7:30 pm. They will be serving Swedish Meatballs; Creamed Chicken; Mashed Potatoes; Vegetables; Salads & Relishes; Homemade Bread; Homemade Pie; Coffee, Tea or Water. The Crafty Senior Plus Sale will be held on October 23rd through October 25th at the Town Center Mall from 10:00 am to 8:30 pm daily. This will be the last sale before Christmas. Checkout all the wonderful handmade gifts for your Christmas presents. You will find a variety of items.
The Riley County Senior Center will have a Soup Supper & Silent Auction on Thursday, October 23rd from 5:00 to 6:30 pm at the Senior Center. Tickets are $6.00 in advance or $7.00 at the door. They will have 14 soups from 12 different restaurants, rolls and dessert. They will have a gift basket auction. Supper benefits the program and activities of the Senior Center.
The Riley County Domestic Violence Task Force will host a discussion of domestic violence in our community on Thursday, October 23rd at 7:00 pm in the Groesbeck Room of the Manhattan Public Library. Following brief presentations by panelists representing the Riley County Police Department, Office of the Riley County Attorney, Sunflower Bridge Child Exchange and Visitation Center, Pawnee Mental Health Services’ Batterer Intervention Program, Fort Riley Family Advocacy Program, and Crisis Center, Inc., task force members will take questions from the audience. The Wonder Workshop is hosting a Children’s Halloween Carnival on October 24th & 25th at 507 S 4th. There will be trick or treating, games, crafts and treats. Join them for a safe Halloween event. Admission if $3 in advance or $4 at the door. Members get in free. Each ticket is good for an additional visit to the Wonder Workshop until December 21st.
