Pillow Cleaning @ American Legion

Pillow Cleaning at the American Legion, 114 McCall Road on Tuesday, September 30th from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm.   ONE DAY ONLY.  Make feather beds into pillows or renovate pillows (feather or foam) with new ticking.  Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #17.  If you have questions call Wanda Jepsen at 785-539-4816.

One Wicked Run 2014

Dig out the old shoes and round up your friends and family — it is time for One Wicked Run 2014! On Saturday, October 11th at 9:00 am, the Wamego Area Chamber of Commerce will partner with Wamego High School’s Kansas Honor Flight program to host this year’s race, a 5K obstacle course run in Wamego.  Runners will venture through many obstacles that are  challenging and fun! Hurdle limestone rocks, wade through the mud, climb over hay bales and scale old cars to conquer this race and provide a local fund that assists veterans and students as proceeds benefit the Kansas Honor Flight.  Awards go to the top male and female overall runners, and the top male and female runners in each age group.  New to this year–runners can register and run as a team! Register now to ensure your spot in the race and to receive the official race t-shirt.  This run is wicked FUN!

Community Meeting @ Manhattan Fire Station

The City of Manhattan is hosting a community Q&A event to address questions about changes to the area’s flood maps and flood insurance requirements.  This event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 pm, Tuesday, September 30th at the Manhattan Fire Station Headquarters, 2000 Denison Avenue.

Military Book Lecture @ K-State Alumni Center

Kansas State University Military Affairs Presents a Military Book Lecture with Phil Klay, Redeployment, on Wednesday, October 1st at the K-State Alumni Center from 4:00 – 5:30 pm. There will be a book sale and signing session at 3:00 pm.  Public response following the lecture.

Larry Kendall Lecture @ K-State Alumni Center

Larry Kendall, founding partner of The Group Inc, and author of “Ninja Selling,” will be the fall 2014 speaker for the Kansas State University College of Business Administration’s Distinguished Lecture Series.  Kendall’s lecture will be at 9:30 am on Thursday, October 2nd, in the ballroom at the K-State Alumni Center.  The event is free and open to the public.

Tech Tuesday @ Manhattan Public Library

The workshop “Basic iPad” will be held on Tuesday, October 7th at 2:00 pm, the first of two iPad workshops this fall.  Although all levels are welcome, this class is designed for beginners with very little experience with their tablet, and focuses on exploring the basic setup and navigation of this popular device.

Disaster Responder Boot Camp @ Topeka Red Cross Office

When disaster strikes, Kansans respond generously to help their friends and neighbors who are suffering.  to help equip people with the skills necessary for disaster response, the chapter is offering a Disaster Boot Camp event on Friday, October 10th and Saturday, October 11th at the Topeka Red Cross office.  Anyone interested in becoming a local disaster volunteer is invited to the free event.  The only requirement is a desire to help those in need.  Disaster Boot Camp is free and open to anyone age 18 and older.  To register, call 785-234-0568 or email valerie.cundy@redcross.org.

Hydrofracking Impacts on Water Resources @ Throckmorton Hall

Nationally recognized geoscientist Susan Brantley will present the 31st annual Roscoe Ellis Jr Lectureship in Soil Science at 4:00 pm on Wednesday, October 15th in 1018 Throckmorton Hall on the Kansas State University campus.  The title of the lecture is “Water Resource Impacts During Unconventional Shale Gas Development with Hydrofracking: The Pennsylvania Experience.”  The lecture is free and open to the public.  Refreshments will be provided before the lecture at 3:30 pm in the lobby of Throckmorton Hall.

Huck Boyd Lecture @ Forum Hall, K-State Student Union

Jim McClean, the executive editor of the Kansas Health Institute News Service, will be the speaker for Kansas State University’s 15th annual Huck Boyd lecture in Community Media at 9:30 am Thursday, October 16th at the K-State Student Union.  His topic will be “Health coverage in Community Media.”
