K-State didn’t quite crack the initial top 25, but the Wildcats received 113 votes to top the list of other teams receiving votes in the first coaches poll of 2013. This essentially puts K-State at number 26 heading into the season.
K-State finished 11th in the final coaches poll of 2012 after finishing with an 11-2 record. This year’s Wildcats return ten starters overall, but must replace nine starters from a year ago on defense as well as Heisman finalist Collin Klein.
Four Big 12 teams are ranked, led by Oklahoma State, Texas and Oklahoma back-to-back-to-back at numbers 14, 15 and 16. TCU checks in at number 20 and Baylor, along with K-State, is receiving votes at number 29.
The SEC has five of the top ten teams in the country, including top ranked Alabama.
