The streak is finally over as the East beat the West 22-19 on Saturday night in the 40th Kansas Shrine Bowl in Topeka. The lead changed hands four times in the second half, and a halfback pass was the difference. With 3:04 left in the game, Blue Valley West’s Conley Wilkins found Blue Valley Northwest wideout Austin Moses from 20 yards out on fourth down.
The West nearly pulled the game out in the closing moments, but Spencer Bernhardt of Pittsburg intercepted a pass from Zeke Palmer of Bishop Carroll in the end zone to seal the victory for the East.
Three area players took the field in the Kansas Shrine Bowl, Wamego’s Dakota Turner had one catch for seven yards for the East, while Jordan Ebert of Rock Creek played offensive line for the East, and Bryce Chavis of Riley County was a defensive back for the West.
