ESPN Shines Light on Romero/K-State Story

K-State found itself the focus of ESPN’s “Outside the Lines” program on Wednesday afternoon via the controversy of women’s basketball player Leti Romero being denied a transfer request.
The heart of the issue for K-State is whether the former coaching staff tried to lure Romero to their next locale as a means of securing a job.  Kamie Ethridge is now the head coach at Northern Colorado, where Shalee Lehning, Deb Patterson, and Kelly Moylan are all on her staff.
ESPN reporter Paula Levine says those coaches deny any contact with Romero.
Romero then met with an appeals committee last month and was again denied her release.
K-State is standing by its decision to deny a transfer request to Romero.

In a letter that surfaced as part of ESPN’s report, athletic director John Currie asked appeals committee member Pat Bosco to consider new information and “potentially approve her request.”

K-State vice president for communications and marketing Jeffrey Morris said in a statement on Wednesday night that “the final and binding nature of these (appeals committee) decisions does not allow them to be overturned by university administrators.”
