Riley County Police have determined a report last month of a battery in the south central portion of Manhattan was false.
RCPD had reported a battery during the early morning hours of August 18th, involving an alleged female victim jogging alone. At the time police said the reported victim was able to escape from an uknown male subject with minor injury.
But a news release from the RCPD Investigations Division Thursday indicates new information has led them to determine the report to police was false.
RCPD still urges community members to take steps that will likely reduce their risk of becoming a victim of crime. When out at night, it is best practice to walk or jog in groups of two or more people and it is best to stay in well-lit and heavily traveled areas. Suspiciouis activity should be reported to RCPD at 537-2112 or the Manhattan/Riley County Crime Stoppers at 539-7777.
