Several area emergency agencies assisted a family with some children who had been floating in tubes and got stuck on a sandbar Sunday night. The incident was reported at 10:30 p.m., with the group starting to float a few hours earlier on the Kansas River near Ogden.
Riley County Police Public Information Officer Hali Rowland tells KMAN six adults and five children were involved–but reported they were not in any danger. She adds reports indicate the water just got too low, they got stuck and preferred someone assist them in getting out.
Manhattan Fire Assistant Chief Sam Dameron tells KMAN MFD and wildlife and parks crews responded for the report of 11 people stranded on a sand bar. Wildlife and parks was able to locate the individuals and take them to shore where Riley County EMS and MFD assisted with off loading the individuals. None of the individuals were injured.
