A Blaine man died in a two vehicle accident that closed a stretch of K-13 Highway for about four hours Friday afternoon. Warren Berg, 57, died in the crash, reported shortly after one p.m. Friday.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol , Berg was driving a 2000 Dodge Stratus northbound on K-13. about 12 and a half miles north of Manhattan, when for an unknown reason, the vehicle drifted across the center line. The Stratus struck a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 3500, which was southbound, head-on.The Stratus came to rest on the east side of the road facing west and the Silverado ended up on the west side of the road facing north.
Berg was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Silverado was identified as Rickie Maginness, 61, of Westmoreland. He and his passenger, Frank Wege, 76, of Olsburg, were not injured. Berg had a seatbelt on but Maginnes and Wege did not.
The accident occurred at about 1:10 p.m., with the road not reopened until after five Friday afternoon.
