The Manhattan Fire Department responded to a small fire at Fourth and Pierre Street Wednesday evening. Demolition work has been going on at the location in recent days in preparation for the new CivicPlus building. The lot was formerly occupied by Manhattan Appliance and Sleep Source.
According to Battalion Chief, Jim Blanck, an ember ignited the rubble and firefighters were called to the scene to contain the blaze. There were no evacuations or injuries, however thru traffic was warned to avoid the area as a safety precaution.
The fire was reported around seven but was under control and cleaned up within an hour.
