Brush fires caused problem for area firefighters this past weekend.
According to Riley County Fire Chief Pat Collins a brush fire caused the loss of an outbuilding on Eureka drive on Saturday. The Kansas State University animal science fire burned 140 acres, threatened five homes, and took multiple fire engines to get under control. Collins says two other fire departments assisted the Riley County fire department in putting out the conflagration, and the fire took just under five hours to get under control. Smaller spot fires were reported that amounted to under 10 acres.
