The Big Red One held a 9/11 Commemoration Ceremony, Wednesday morning at Fort Riley.
Soldiers and their families, local law enforcement and first responders, and family members of soldiers killed in the line of duty, were honored during the ceremony.
The ceremony took place in front of the Global War on Terrorism monument (near Cavalry Parade Field), and has been a Fort Riley tradition since the 2001 terrorist attacks.
The monument is a small replica of the twin towers on a pentagon-shaped base and bears the names of Big Red Soldiers who lost their lives in Afghanistan and Iraq. This year, four names will be added to the monument, which brings the total number to 208.
The names were read during Wednesday’s ceremony and include:
Capt. James D. Nehl
Staff Sgt. Matthew H. Stiltz
Sgt. Joseph A. Richardson
Sgt. Channing B. Hicks
