DE Ryan Mueller, S Ty Zimmerman, C B.J. Finney and WR/KR/PR Tyler Lockett were all named first team All-Big 12 selections by the Big 12 coaches.
Lockett was a first team selection at both wide receiver and kick returner/punt returner in addition to being named the Special Teams Player of the Year. He joins Brandon Banks (2009) as the second K-State wide receiver to ever take home that honor.
Mueller also won the Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year award, the second straight Wildcat to do so (Meshak Williams). Despite that honor, Mueller missed out on being named Defensive Player of the Year in part because of another defensive lineman. Texas DE Jackson Jeffcoat and TCU CB Jason Verrett were the co-Defensive Players of the Year.
OL Cody Whitehair was the only Wildcat named to the second team. K-State’s honorable mention selections were DL Travis Britz, FB Glenn Gronkowski, RB John Hubert, OL Cornelius Lucas, OL Tavon Rooks, QB Daniel Sams, LB Blake Slaughter, and KR/PR Tramaine Thompson. Lockett also received mention for having received at least one vote for Offensive Player of the year. Zimmerman was mentioned as a vote-getter for Defensive Player of the Year as well.
Not surprisingly, Baylor QB Bryce Petty was the Big 12’s Offensive Player of the Year, and Art Briles was the Coach of the Year.
