The 20 year old Frank Bergman Elementary roof will finally be replaced after Manhattan Ogden USD 383 school board members approved unanimously to accept a bid of $347,488 for the project, during their Wednesday night meeting.
This item has been discussed during previous meetings, but the large chunk of change necessary for the project caused it to be delayed.
School board members shared comments after the bid was approved. They mentioned they know this is a large amount of money to allocate to a project, especially during budget shortfalls. However, these dollars have to be specifically used for building improvement projects anyways-so it’s not like they can reallocate the money for salaries or hire more teachers.

A few other items of new business were approved by the board unanimously: the adult learning center/open door facility lease and the headstart and early headstart grant application.

Several district students were honored for their achievements, during the special recognition portion of the meeting.
Ella Rosenkratz, who is an Eisenhower Middle School seventh grader, was recognized for her regional spelling bee champion achievement. She will go on to Washington D.C. in May for the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Rosenkratz received a round of applause and a standing ovation after being honored.
State wrestling champion from Manhattan High School, Mason Wallace, was also recognized. He is a sophomore at MHS and competed in the 132 pound division.
The Kansas Music Educators Association All-State Honor Ensembles were also acknowledged during the meeting.
