-Both the Manhattan High boys and girls cross country teams qualified for state at the 6A regional meet in Junction City. Each Tribe squad was second in the team standings, as Alaina Schroeder won the girls’ race, and Chris Melgares was fifth in the boys’ race.
– The Wamego boys cross country team won their 4A regional at Bonner Springs, as Jordan Routh was second as an individual. The Lady Raiders also qualified for state by finishing 3rd at regionals, and Allison Seufert was fifth individually.
– The Riley County boys will run as a team at state after winning their 3A regional at the Leonardville golf course. Nate Elder ran a season best time in 3rd place. The Falcon girls also qualified for state with a runner up finish at regionals. Stacy Pachta was second individually.
– None of the area volleyball teams qualified for state following Saturday’s substates. Manhattan High lost to Junction City in the semifinal round in three sets, as the Blue Jays went on to win their 6A substate at home. Wamego reached the substate finals but fell to McPherson in straight sets. Rock Creek beat Smoky Valley in Wamego, but lost to McPherson in the semis. Riley County bowed out against Salina Sacred Heart in the opening round of their 3A sub-state at Southeast of Saline. Blue Valley hosted their 1A Divsion I sub-state, but lost to Valley Heights in the first round. Frankfort dropped a three-setter to Wetmore in the semifinals of their 1A Divison II substate at B&B.
