A Virginia man was injured in a Riley County accident Monday night, which involved a driver falling asleep. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports Seth Kaikstian, 24, of Virginia Beach, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to Mercy Regional Health Center following the accident, which occurred on I-70 shortly before 9 p.m.
The accident involved a 1991 Chevrolet Camaro, driven by William Lopiccolo, 23, of Fort Riley, and was in the inside lane of I-70 westbound, approximately a mile west of the Riley/Wabaunsee County line, when Lopiccolo fell asleep. The vehicle entered the median and struck a ditch. Lopiccolo was not injured. Both Lopiccolo and Kaikstian had seatbelts on.
