A Kansas Department of Corrections inmate serving time for first degree murder and rape convictions in Geary County is up for July public comment sessions. Oliver Smith, 53, was convicted in connection with the rape and murder cases in 1988.
Public comment sessions will be held July 15th at the Derby Police and Courts Building on North Baltimore, July 17th at the Municipal Court House on Southeast Eighth Street in Topeka, and July 27th at City Hall in Kansas City. Letters may also be sent to the Kansas Department of Corrections. A parole hearing will be held in August, with the earliest possible release in September.
Smith is currently being held in Hutchinson.
