A Fort Riley soldier taken into custody in Kansas City, Missouri Wednesday in a child abuse case has been transported back to Junction City. Cyjay Echon, 22, was booked into the Geary County Detention Center in Junction City Friday afternoon.
According to the JCPD arrest report, released Saturday morning, Echon’s charges include aggravated battery, intentional great bodily harm or abuse of a child under 18 years of age, and intentional torture/cruel beating/and inhumane punishment.
Junction City Police announced Echon’s arrest Wednesday night, indicating at about 1 p.m. that day JCPD was contacted by Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City in reference to a three month old infant that had been transferred from the Geary Community Hospital. Other sources indicate the child had severe head injuries and was on a ventilator at Children’s Mercy.
Bond announced Wednesday was $150,000.
