The NCAA Selection Committee announced on Sunday evening that the Kansas State Wildcats will be the number four seed in the West Regional and will begin play Friday at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo. The Wildcats will have to wait a few days to find out their opponent in the second round as they will face the winner of the game between Boise State and La Salle. The match-up between the Broncos and the Explorers is one of four play-in games in this year’s tournament.
Kansas State (27-7) was one of five teams from the Big 12 to make the NCAA Tournament along with Kansas, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Iowa State. If the Wildcats win their first game on Friday they would face the winner of the second round game between Wisconsin and Mississippi on Sunday. Wisconsin eliminated K-State from the NCAA Tournament in 2008 and again in 2011. Gonzaga is the number one seed in the West Regional whose semifinals and finals will be held at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
K-State is in the midst of one of its most successful seasons in recent history as it won a share of its first regular season championship in 36 years and advanced to the Big 12 Final for the second time in the last four seasons. The 27 wins are currently the second most in school history.
Tipoff will be at 2:10 p.m. on Friday. Coverage begins at 1:00 on the K-State Sports Network from Learfield Sports.
