Brittany Chambers continued her hot play in Postseason tournament action by scoring 28 points and Haley Texada added 13 as the Kansas State Women’s Basketball team defeated Illinois State 57-48 in the Second Round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament before 1,203 Monday night at Bramlage Coliseum.
Chambers who scored a school record 42 points in K-State First Round rout of Texas Southern had 21 points at halftime and got her game going after a slow start. In the second half, the Redbirds turned up the heat defensively but the Wildcats who led by as much as 17 points at one point in the second half never let their Missouri Valley Conference foe get closer than eight points the rest of the game. One key to the game was the Wildcats knocking down 11 three-point baskets over course of the game which was relatively foul free as both teams attempted a combined 16 free throws.
Chambers’ 70 points in the WNIT are the most in school history for back-to-back games and the 11 treys helped the Wildcats set a new Big 12 record for most three-pointers made in a season with 302.
Kansas State (17-17) advances to the Third Round of the WNIT on Thursday night when they will host Ball State out of the Mid American Conference. The Cardinals knocked off Northern Iowa Sunday in Muncie Indiana by a score of 53-48.
Tipoff on Thursday at Bramlage Coliseum is set for 7 p.m. Pregame will begin at 6:30 on SportsRadio 1350 KMAN from the K-State Sports Network with Brian Smoller and Kristen Waller.
