Ross Kivett knocked in a career-high five runs as K-State survived a wild game on a frigid Tuesday night at Tointon Family Stadium, 10-8 over Nebraska. Kivett drove in a run on a second inning single to pull the Cats within 2-1 of the Huskers. He followed with a sacrifice fly to score Jon Davis for the second time and tie the game at 2 in the fourth. Kivett doubled in the 5th for the first of three runs scored by K-State to give K-State the lead for good at 8-5. He complete the scoring for K-State with an RBI single up the middle in the 8th to plate two more runs for a 10-6 lead.
Nebraska would make things interesting in the top of the 9th as Michael Pritchard and Chad Christensen came thru with back-to-back RBI singles with two outs, but Wildcat closer Tanner Witt induced a fly out to end the game. On a night in which K-State used eight pitchers, Levi MaVorhis (2-0) earned the win by pitching K-State out of trouble in a three-run fifth for the Huskers.
Jared King also had three hits to lead the way for the Cats with Kivett, and also got multi-hit performances from R.J. Santigate and Blair DeBord. Nebraska was led offensively by three hits and three RBI’s from Darby.
K-State returns to Big 12 Conference action this weekend at Baylor. With Easter on Sunday, the series will start on Thursday night with first pitch set for 6:35pm. The BD4 Distributing pregame show begins at 6:00 on SportsRadio 1350 KMAN.
