Defending Big 12 champ K-State picked up a first-place vote in the media preseason poll, but was tabbed to finish sixth in the league this season. The Cats are in a very familiar position after being picked sixth in the Big 12 before the 2012 campaign, before going on to win their second conference title in the last nine years.
Six teams in all received first-place votes, and while none of them came close to receiving a majority, Oklahoma State was picked as the league champ with 15 first place votes. Bedlam rival Oklahoma was a close second with eight votes for first. TCU (nine first-place votes) was next in third, followed closely by Texas (eight first-place votes) in fourth, and Baylor (two first-place votes) in fifth. Texas Tech, West Virginia, Iowa State, and Kansas round out the bottom four spots in the poll.
K-State opens up the season on Friday, August 30th against 2012 FCS national champion North Dakota State with a 7:30pm kickoff at Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
