Ashia Woods scored 18 points and a three-point basket that went in didn’t count for Oklahoma State as Kansas State defeated the Cowgirls 52-51 in a thrilling overtime contest Wednesday night in Women’s Basketball action at Bramlage Coliseum.
Woods tied the game with 32 seconds left in regulation by making the first of two free throws before missing the second one. Then after the Wildcats committed two fouls they had left to give, Oklahoma State’s Lakota Beatty missed a layup with three seconds left in regulation and the game went into the extra period.
K-State then took a three-point lead halfway through the overtime but another missed free throw by Woods opened the door for the Cowgirls who tied the game on a three-pointer by Beatty with 2:01 left. The two teams then traded missed shots until Haley Texada was fouled with five seconds left. After missing her first free throw, Texada made the second then Oklahoma State got the ball back and a long three-point basket banked in at the buzzer which would have given Oklahoma State the win, but replay showed that the shot was taken after the buzzer went off and K-State had its second conference victory and exceeded its win total from all of last season.
Joining Woods in double figures were Breanna Lewis with 12 points and Texada with 10. Beatty led the Cowgirls with 14 points while Liz Donohoe added 13.
Kansas State (12-7, 2-6) will next be in action on Saturday when they travel to Texas Tech. Tipoff in Lubbock is set for 3 p.m.
