The Kansas State women’s basketball team is off to a 2-0 start after defeating Abilene Christian, 76-45, Monday night in the team’s home opener at Bramlage Coliseum.
K-State opened the season at Tulsa last Friday, rallying from an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter to win 75-67. The Wildcats used a series of late runs to top the Golden Hurricane, and did the same to put away ACU.
Led by Megan Deinas’ ten straight points in the second quarter, K-State built a 12-point halftime lead and never looked back.
“Megan had a real good feel in the middle,” K-State coach Jeff Mittie said. “She can provide a lot of baskets for us from there.”
ACU led 20-17 early in the second quarter before Deinas singlehandedly took over the game. She scored ten points in one minute, 19 seconds, eliminating both K-State’s deficit and ACU’s momentum.
“I was able to get to the middle of their defense,” Deinas said. “It was open for me all night.”
Deinas, a Louisville transfer, finished the game with 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting in 25 minutes. Bri Lewis pitched in 19 points, five rebounds and five blocks for the Wildcats.
K-State outscored ACU 25-10 in the third quarter to put the game away.
Abilene Christian was led by Alexis Mason’s 17 points, but as a team, ACU was held to just 21 percent shooting from the floor.
K-State is back in action Thursday when it hosts South Dakota. Tipoff in Manhattan is set for 7 p.m.
