At Tuesday’s City Commission meeting, City Manager Merl Page asked for approval to go after $190,000 in additional Kansas Department of Transportation funding available for the U.S. Hwy 24 Corridor improvements.
Page said this request came about after a recent conversation with KDOT asking if the City wanted to move forward on the Hwy. 24/Kaw Valley Road improvements, saying they needed positive action so the paperwork could be sent out. Page said the additional funds would allow the City to move forward with Phase 2 of the original plan with the addition of an extra turn lane on Kaw Valley Road.
Phase 1 included pedestrian walkway and traffic signals on the Kaw Valley/Hyw. 24 intersection, plus converting the existing traffic signal at Lilac Lane to usage activated signal. Page said staff has met with the area property owners, and everything is positive. Approval was given.
