Haley Texada scored 17 points to lead four players in double figures as the Kansas State Women’s Basketball team cruised to an 80-30 victory over Newman University of Wichita in their final exhibition tune-up Monday night at Bramlage Coliseum.
Unlike last Monday’s 54-50 win over Emporia State, the Wildcats quickly took control of the game as they raced out to a 45-15 halftime lead as Texada scored 13 of her points. K-State kept things the same throughout much of the second half and forced Newman into 27 turnovers for the contest. In addition to Texada’s 17 points, Breanna Lewis scored 12 points and Kindred Wesemann added 10. Sierra Maykus was the leading scorer for Newman with 12 points.
Kansas State now prepares for the beginning of the Jeff Mitte era when they host Southern Illinois-Edwardsville in the 2014-15 season opener on Friday night. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. and will be part of a doubleheader with the Men’s team which will open its campaign with an 8:00 tip-off against Southern Utah on the Bramlage hardwood.
