Local contractors were given a second look at the NBAF project to see where they could fit into the picture as the construction of the facility moves forward. On Tuesday morning at the Sheraton at 4 Points local contractors met with project managers to get a better picture of the project.
Vice president of operations for McCarthy/Mortenson Jon Jacobsmeyer says the session will help the local businesses compete for contracts within the facility itself.
Contractor Dennis Massey says the presentation will be key in finding out just what the project is looking for during their construction work, and general fact finding.
Some portions of the project will consist of highly technical construction of the lab, but of the 600,000 square feet only 100,000 square feet comprises the lab proper. The rest are office buildings, and outlying support structures which will be open to many of the contractors within the region.
The site is projected to cost just over one billion dollars, and further construction is expected to begin in the near future.
