The Litttle Apple Optimists Club joined the Manhattan Breakfast Optimists Club Saturday for a District meeting at the Manhattan Fire Department Headquarters.
“We had a business meeting with some training with regards to fundraising and membership recruitment,” said Craig Cox, president of the Manhattan Breakfast Optimists Club.
Little Apple Club President, Penny Alonso says both clubs share a common goal.
“We’re community service oriented. We raise money and distribute it back into the community, basically for children’s’ programming, just to try and help area youth,” Alonso said.
Saturday’s meeting included the last leg of the State-wide oratorical contest, featuring eight highschool seniors.
“There’s four girls and four boys and there will be one apiece,” Cox said. “They’ll each get a $2,500 scholarship to a college of their choice.”
