The Manhattan High basketball teams kept Wichita Word of Life guessing on Tuesday night in their newly refurbished gymnasium in a doubleheader sweep. The Tribe girls wasted no time running away from the Lady Fire, leading 26-4 after the first quarter, and 44-11 at the half. MHS (2-0) got 20 points from Darby Price, as they dominated Word of Life on the boards.
The Indian boys led by as many as 14 points in the first half, but the Fire pulled within 31-28 at halftime. Word of Life tied Manhattan at 32 early in the third quarter, but the Indians would outscore the Fire the rest of the way 33-10 to win comfortably, 65-42. MHS (1-1) was led by 12 points each from Winston Dimel and Jacob Holloway, plus Blake Saville added 11. Word of Life (0-1) got a game-high 16 points from Torrey Henderson.
Manhattan High hoops will now meet up with Dodge City on Friday night for a girl/boy double dip at 6:00pm in the Indians’ gym. Pregame on SportsRadio 1350 will begin at 5:45 on SportsRadio 1350 KMAN.
