According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Manhattan was the 15th fastest growing city for populations over 50,000 in the United States last year.
The bureau reports eight of the 15 fastest-growing large U.S. cities and towns for the year ending July 1, 2012 were in Texas.
Manhattan was ranked 15th on the list for the period July 2011 to July 2012, with a 3.71 percent increase. Manhattan is in a statistical tie with Auburn, Alabama, the 14th place city, which also had a 3.71 percent increase, but with a population of 56,908, to Manhattan’s 56,069.
The top city was San Marcos, Texas with a 4.91 increase and population of 50,001.
