K-State wrapped up the Big 12 title and their fourth straight series win this weekend by taking two of three games from the Oklahoma Sooners. The Wildcats have the Big 12 tournament in Oklahoma City this week to worry about, but speculation continues as to whether or not K-State will be one of 16 host sites for an NCAA Regional. Many national college baseball writers believe the Wildcats answered enough questions with this weekend’s performance.
“Kansas State is in strong position to host a regional,” Baseball America’s Aaron Fitt wrote. “The Wildcats clinched the series and shored up their hosting credentials with a 5-2 win (Saturday).”
Perfect Game USA’s Kendall Rogers is also among those that believe Manhattan will get it’s first ever regional.
“Color me a strong believer that Kansas State is now in great shape to host an NCAA Regional after taking the second game of the weekend against Oklahoma,” Rogers wrote in his Saturday wrap up.
K-State is now number 19 in the college baseball RPI, which is 14 spots above anyone else in the Big 12.
The Wildcats take on Texas Tech at 12:30 PM in Oklahoma City on Wednesday in their Big 12 tournament opener. Pregame coverage starts at noon on KMAN.
