Hardly a household name when he arrived at K-State after two seasons at City College of San Francisco, Nigel Malone certainly made people take notice during his junior year in purple. Malone was a named third team all-American defensive back by the Associated Press on Wednesday. He led the Big 12 with seven interceptions, collected 57 tackles, broke up nine passes, and scored one touchdown. Malone was previously named a Walter Camp second team all-American, and a third team all-American by Phil Steele.
The AP named 13 other Big 12 players all-American including three on the first team, Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, Oklahoma State wide receiver Justin Blackmon, and Texas A&M kicker Randy Bullock.
