Formal charges will not be filed against Grandview Plaza Police Chief Shawn Peirano, who was taken into custody Oct. 22 on initial domestic battery and criminal restraint charges. A release Tuesday indicated a thorough investigation by the Geary County Sheriff’s Office concluded all actions taken by Peirano were done in defense of another person and formal charges were not warranted.

Information from the investigation indicates the incident involved Peirano and a person living with him who was not his spouse or any other immediate family member. Morris County Attorney Laura Allen was employed as a special prosecutor in the case, and Allen determined the more thorough investigation was needed. That investigation was concluded Nov. 14, with a detailed affidavit provided to Allen, indicating all actions were done in defense of another person.

The release from the Geary County Sheriff’s Office adds an administrative review has been ordered to determine if the office’s policies or procedures were violated during the initial investigation of the matter.
