The 1st inaugural Bill Snyder Half Marathon and 5K race opened to a large crowd on Saturday morning. Over 1,500 individuals registered for the race.
Runners participating in the half marathon were taken by bus to Bill Snyder Highway, where the race began. The course then went through Poyntz, City Park, Aggieville, K-State campus, and concluded on the east side of Bill Snyder Family Stadium.
Participants received a free t-shirt and fruit from HyVee. They also had the chance to enjoy live music, vendors and bouncy houses for children.
The first three runners in each age category received a medal. The top overalls received plaques.
A majority of the proceeds raised went to Manhattan Homecare and Hospice, as requested by Bill Snyder himself. Around $5,000 of proceeds however, were given to the organizations who offered volunteers for the event. Around 250 volunteers assisted at the start and finish lines, as well as the seven water stations throughout the course. This race was sponsored by Manhattan Running Company.
