An inflatable device with what was described as a “threatening message” was located and deflated without apparent incident early Sunday morning in Wamego.
According to updates from the Wamego Police Department, a concerned citizen called in the device, located in the area of Valley and Balderson on the east side of Wamego. The police and fire departments responded, setting up a perimeter to cordon off the area before outside agencies could respond. The Riley County Police Department’s Hazardous Devices Unit was called in and deflated the device with a mechanical robot.
The Wamego Police Department has not released further information, only to say the evidence has been collected and the investigation is still active. The Manhattan Fire Department also responded to the incident.
