A rezoning request was made at Monday’s Pottawatomie County Commission meeting to allow for a possible apartment complex or similar building to be constructed.
The request was for a lot along Dempsey Road.
During the discussion of the item, Stan Hartwich, commissioner, explained he was having a hard time approving the zoning request since they didn’t have a clear picture as to what exactly would be built on the lot.
Gary Yenzer and Pat Weixelman agreed and therefore they tabled the item and sent it back to the Planning Commission along with the petition that was made against the rezoning.
Department updates had the commission busy as well during their meeting as Tim Eisenbarth, Noxious Weed Director, Betty Abitz, Register of Deeds, Leslie Campbell, Health Department Administrator, and Gregg Webster, Zoning Administrator, all made an appearance.
Eisenbarth request approval for the purchase of two trailers for the recycling center. The commission approved the purchase.
Abitz explained they had a busy month with 140 filings, which was up 43 from last year.
Campbell informed the commission they were getting ready for school and also the flu season as vaccines will be started next month. There is also still a shortage of Tuberculosis tests, so she advises calling the office before coming in.
Webster gave out the numbers for July showing 25 total permits with 15 of those being for new dwellings. This is up from 18 total from the same time last year. Total revenue is at about $3.7 million.
Also, the Justice Center will be hitting its contractual completion date on Thursday with an open house scheduled for Saturday from 10 am – 2 pm.
On August 19, the Sheriff’s Department will be moving with the attorneys and courts early in September and having Phase 2 of the project beginning near the end of September, beginning of October.
