Former RCPD Corrections Official Arrested

A former Riley County Corrections Officer faces several charges, following his arrest by Wabaunsee county officials.

Russ McCormick, 30, was taken into custody on a Riley County warrant which includes charges of traffic in contraband in a correctional facility, unlawful sexual relations, and promoting obscenity.

McCormick had been a corrections officer with RCPD for two years.

Riley County Police Director Brad Schoen made the announcement Tuesday, saying the arrest resulted from an investigation into McCormick’s activities by detectives of RCPD. He added that in keeping with his desire that the department be open and transparent, officials wanted the public to know every single RCPD employee is responsible to uphold the Department’s core values. Schoen declined to give more details.

McCormick is out on $2,500 bond. He was released from RCPD employment prior to his Friday arrest.
