As of January 1st, the new state statute eliminating the mortgage registration fee went into effect. Even just a few weeks into the new year, Riley County Register of Deeds, Debbie Regester said they have already noticed a difference in revenues.
During Thursday’s county commission meeting, Regester commented, “it’s going to be a significant hit”.
As far as the impact the mortgage registration fee elimination has already had on the county, Regester said they have already missed out on around $3,000 worth of revenue.

During commission comments, Commission Chair, Ron Wells spoke briefly about the incident that took place at the Flint Hills Regional Leader’s Retreat in Overland Park recently. Several cars in the parking lot of the Sheraton Hotel, where the retreat was held, were damaged.
Wells’s vehicle was one of the damaged trucks. He said all of the vehicles that were ransacked were pick-up trucks. Wells explained that alarms do not typically go off on trucks as they would on cars. Trucks are driven on rough terrain, where cars are typically driven on better roads-which makes them more sensitive.
Wells did not have much taken from the vehicle, but the suspect(s) did manage to to damage his driver’s side window.
