Pottawatomie County law enforcement authorities successfully tracked down one fugitive Friday, with two manhunts going on at the same time.
A 46-year-old St. Mary’s man was taken into custody by the Pottawatomie County sheriff’s office, with the assistance of St. Mary’s police and the Kansas Highway Patrol after what is described as a short manhunt in the St. Mary’s area.
A sheriff’s office spokesman indicates the subject, who has not been named, was wanted for aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer. That incident occurred late Thursday night when a deputy was attempting to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle later reported stolen from St. Mary’s. As the officer attempted to stop the vehicle the suspect backed up into the patrol vehicle and disabled it, then took off.
The suspect is being held pending filing of formal charges. No injuries were reported from the incident.
At last report the search was continuing for 24 year old Jon Getzlaff who escaped from the exercise yard at the Pottawatomie county detention facility shortly after nine Friday morning.
