This year’s Manhattan Town Center Martin Luther King Jr. holiday celebration began at 9 Monday morning with a day of service. Volunteers joined together to assist in various projects, and many participated in a march down Poyntz.
March participants wore signs that said “I march because..”. Each person was asked to fill out the blank space below the words with the reason they were marching.
Starting at 10 a.m., the celebration inside the mall began. Entertainment was provided by several school groups, churches and other individuals. Community recognitions and Martin Luther King Jr. art and writing competition award winners were acknowledged.
