Bill Snyder had his first press conference of the spring football season Tuesday. Here’s the highlights:
– Everybody wants to start with the quarterback position. Snyder said that Joe Hubener and Jesse Ertz are ahead of the pack at quarterback, but he did joke that the Wildcats have “200 guys” taking snaps. Snyder also went out of his way to mention that freshman Alex Delton has “caught our eye.” When asked about Taylor Laird, Snyder said he was “rusty” after returning from an injury that sidelined him most of last year.
– Charles Jones is, not surprisingly, atop the depth chart at running back right now, but Snyder said not to count out some of the younger guys who are also in the mix. One of those is redshirt freshman Dalvin Warmack who Snyder said has done well, but needs to improve in areas like pass blocking and catching out of the backfield.
– One surprise was Kyle Klein at wide receiver. He’s returning from a back injury that kept him out last season and Snyder said that Klein has impressed more than anyone at wide receiver. Snyder also praised the ability of Judah Jones, but noted that he needs to be focused to make an impact.
– According to Snyder, he and defensive tackle Terrell Clinkscales are “at odds” right now. Snyder wouldn’t commit to saying he’s on or off the team, but Clinkscales ins’t practicing right now. Meanwhile, fellow defensive tackle Travis Britz has returned from his injury that kept him out the final few games of 2014 and is practicing this spring.
– Some bad injury news came in the form of linebacker Charmeachealle Moore who got a medical hardship waiver for the 2014 season. Snyder said he isn’t practicing yet. Linebackers that Snyder did mention are in the mix included Will Davis, Elijah Lee, Sam Sizelove and Trent Tanking
