The Pottawatomie County Sheriff Office continues to investigate a series of what appears to be related thefts from construction sites, construction
vehicles and a lumber yard located between Manhattan and Wamego, Pottawatomie County.
These thefts are believed to have started around April 20th at a construction site North of Highway 24 on Green Valley Road. They continue and Sheriff Detectives believe that the same suspects may be responsible for these burglaries. One update on these cases is that one of the stolen vehicles from, a 2005 Chevrolet HD 2500 4X4, maroon in color was recovered in Topeka on May 12th, by the Topeka Police Department.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking the public to note any unusual activity at construction sites after hours. We also ask that anyone with information on these burglaries is urged to contact the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office at 785-457-3353. A reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for these burglaries.
Some of the burglaries KMAN previously reported on are listed below:
- In the early morning hours of May 5th, 2013 unknown person or persons entered into the fenced area behind Griffith Lumber on Levee DR. Once inside, the suspect-s then entered a white 2008 GMC box truck. The suspect-s started the truck and drove it through the fence. The GMC box truck was white in color with Griffith Lumber on the doors. The GMC truck from Griffith Lumber was later recovered on May 6th in the 500 Block of Bertrand, Manhattan KS. Damages from this incident are in excess of $1000. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office at 785-457-3353 for Detective Green. - The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office is investigation the theft of 2 pickup trucks from the area of Bluebird Road, North of highway 24. The victim reported that the trucks were taken sometime around the 7th or 8th of May 2013. The trucks are owned by Bob Hull Inc. These trucks contained utility and general work tools. The first truck is a 2004 Chevrolet HD 2500 4X4, white in color with a Duramax Diesel. This truck is a crew cab with a pickup bed. The bed contained a tool box behind the cab, and then a fuel tank behind the tool box with a hand pump. At the time of the theft the license plate on this vehicle was 416-DWD. The second pickup is a 2005 Chevrolet HD 2500 4X4, maroon in color. This truck is also a crew cab with a pickup bed. The bed on this pickup has a tool box against the cab and one on each side of the bed. This pickup has “Bob Hull Inc” lettering in the back window. At the time of the theft the license plate on this vehicle was 418-DWD. The loss from these thefts are expected to exceed $30000.
- The most recent burglary being reported on 05/15/2013 to a construction site north of Highway 24 on Megan Lane, rural St.George. The suspects reportedly entered a construction trailer and stole construction tools. The victim reported the loss will exceed $1000 dollars.
