A student taking part in a pre-game skit before K-State’s Homecoming Football game against West Virginia was injured when he was tackled hard by Willie the Wildcat on the 50-yard line.
The individual was standing in the middle of the field in West Virginia attire when Willie, as is the custom, tackled him. According to at least two sources, the student’s head hit the turf hard when he was tackled and he was unresponsive after the skit for a short time. He was attended to at first by trainers for both teams and then emergency medical workers. Willie appeared to be unaware of the seriousness of the injuries.
The individual was taken from the field in an emergency vehicle. His name has not been released. K-State Athletics announced on their Twitter account during the latter stages of the Wildcats’ 35-12 victory over the Mountaineers that the student was “cleared and doing well.”
